If you thought that Jet Airways and Indian Airlines are the only airlines to go on strike this year, think again. Not only Indian pilots, but aviation staff the world over are expressing their unhappiness over a range of issues from better pay, bad communication systems to improving sanitary conditions.
Here’s a snapshot of what has happened so far:

May 2009: About 240 employees of Air NZ subsidiary Zeal went on a strike after two months of negotiations between EMPU and Air NZ failed to resolve a pay dispute. Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EMPU) was seeking substantial pay rises for Zeal staff, who were paid up to NZ$30,000 less a year than staff working directly for the parent company. The last action by flight attendants was in 2005. Earlier, Air New Zealand was planning a four-day strike during Easter, when nearly 20,000 passengers were booked on Transtasman and Pacific Islands flights.
